Blogging about Maison and Life

Prom

Prom, good memories. I remember these days well, since they were some of my favorites in my young-adult life.
See, the hard part about Prom was asking a girl to Prom, since I always got nervous, it’s just in my character. I
did however ask this girl to Prom, and she said yes. I was pretty excited, even though she wanted to plan a like two
months before it, which I guess wasn’t so bad. It got somewhat annoying though. The night however was a blast, full
of dancing, talking, and good fun. All my friends were there, all my favorite teachers were there as well as well.
I had a really good night that night. They played a lot of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen and other bands that I
consider “good music”. This is one night, that no one should miss, even if you don’t have a date, you should definitely
should still go. I know I would of regretted it if I didn’t go.

Recess

Could be the best thing about school was recess. I usually played football at recess, and frankly I got pretty good at it.  I could score a goal pretty regularly, not sure if that makes me a good kicker or him a poor goalie.

Either way, it was a good time, and some days we had an extended recess. Always a bonus, this usually occurred in the spring on a nice day after a long winter.

Sometimes I would only stand and chat with people. They had interesting stories to tell.

O and dodgeball was very popular too!

Water Fights

One thing about summer I always loved, no matter at what age, was the water fights. Whether it be water fights with
hoses, or water fights with water balloons, they were always fun. Probably the best one I ever had was with my two
friends, and my two younger brothers. We really got into it, it was my two brothers and I against my two friends.
Throwing water balloons, drenching one another with hoses. It probably got really fun when my dad came home, and was
mad that we wasted so much water. But being the kids that we were, we just got him wet. My dad just laughed, and it
seemed like the anger just left his face. He got into the fight, and got drenched with water as well. This is
probably one of my most cherished memories, I had so much fun that day.

Valhalla

Near my parents first house was a graveyard named Valhalla. We used to play there, because half of the graveyard was undeveloped, meaning that in the back was a woods with a swamp.

We would play things like “Vietnam”. We would spit into 2 groups and conduct pre-teen guerrilla warfare on each other, in the summer we would use bottle rockets to simulate mortars and smoke grenades for cover, etc. We would dig elaborate pit traps. We stopped hiding under water in the swamp pretty fast, because of the leeches we found ourselves covered in.

Tree Climbing

I wish I were still small enough to climb trees. I used to be really agile and able to move through trees like a monkey. I would get way up on some comfortable branches and just hang out, I would look down and watch the word go by. This was great! I was way up high watching people even listening to them and they were unaware I was even there.

Tree climbing isn’t a useful skill. It is a fun skill however, and it allowed me to be outside, and around nature, without having to be around people.

I still have an affinity for trees even all these years later, I find them to be a calming influence on me.

Birthdays

Oh, now that I’m older, I’m starting to dislike this day, but when I was younger, I’d love it. The Main reason I
liked it so much was because people actually listened to me on this day, and paid attention to me. The one thing
that annoyed me a lot when I was younger was that no one seemed to take me seriously, and on this day they did, it
seemed to be fulfilling in a way. I was liked some of the things that you got to do with a year older. Like, for example,
when you turn 12, your parents let you stay out later, and seem to trust you more. The one thing I loved was when I
turned 13 my parents trusted me enough to let me stay home alone. Plus, the cake and gifts were always nice too.

My First Job

I remember my first job. I was 16 at the time, and my mom was already bugging me to get a job for awhile now. I finally stopped being lazy, and got one.
My first job was at this local store in town, about a 15 miniute or so walk from my house. The shop older was this middle aged women, who was a friend
of the family for years. Maybe that’s how I got the job so easily, who knows. The pay wasn’t bad, It got me enough money so I could take friends, or
other people to the movies, or other places. Only thing I didn’t like about it, was that my friends at first think I could get them stuff for free, which
I personally didn’t like, and I had to have a talk with them, but after that It was good. I worked there until I graduated high school, saved up a good
amount of money too. I like to think that this responsibility helped me grow up, who knows, maybe I’m just thinking about things to hard again.

Ice Cream Man

I love in summer how the ice cream man brings ice cream through your own neighborhood. If you listen you can hear the ice cream man music, and then you and the whole block scramble around trying to get your money together. You must be fast, thats part of the fun. Once you have your money you get outside and run hard, feet slamming the pavement as you race to the corner.

Its up to your ears at this point to determine which way the ice cream man has gone. Once you zero in on where he is and which way he is going, you must attempt to head him off. Leaping hedges and cutting through yards you race to get to the truck. As you travel other kids join you, running alongside, forming a pack around you.

And finally as this group of kids reaches critical mass, charging along, you finally reach the truck, where you must order your choice ice cream by pointing to the decal on the side of the truck because you are out of breath from running.

Or you could get one from a store, but what fun is that?

Music

Ahh, the sweet joys of music. That is one of the things I remember clearly. It’s also one of the things I did as a child, and I still do today.
I grew up listening to The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, all that, and it was good. I also grew up playing the trumpet, and playing the piano, which I still
do both regularly. Music was something, I really enjoyed as a child. The hours seemed to fly by when I was practicing, I mean, it wasn’t really work to me
unlike some of my friends who hated practicing. At first, I disliked it, because learning was dull. Once I could play music well though, it was really enjoyable.
It always nice to see a smile on my mom’s face when I played something from The Beatles on the piano too.
